A brilliant evening at the CBI Scotland Annual Dinner in Glasgow, representing the University of Dundee.
I’m very grateful to Professor Susan Kinnear for the opportunity to attend on her behalf, and to Margaret Simpson for such a warm welcome and for bringing together such an engaging group at Table 3.
It was particularly good to finally meet Claire Phillips, Chair of the Institute of Directors (IoD) Fife & Tayside, and Ann Johnson, an accomplished Strategic Growth Mentor and member of the IoD ambassador team, and through them connect with the wider IoD network and many others from across Scotland’s business community.
From the speeches on stage to the conversations around the tables, the evening brought together different perspectives on technology and innovation, investment, productivity and the conditions needed for sustainable growth. What struck me most was how connected these themes are: the future of business is not shaped by any one sector or institution, but by the strength of the relationships between business, government, universities and the wider community.
It was especially valuable to have so many thoughtful conversations about leadership, business education and opportunities to strengthen engagement between universities and the wider business community. These are the kinds of connections that can turn one evening into something much more meaningful, creating space for new ideas, stronger relationships and future collaboration.
A fantastic evening, and one that reinforced just how important it is for universities to be part of these wider conversations.
